Leica Integrates FusionOptics on Stereomicroscope

(October 1, 2007) BANNOCKBURN, Ill. and WETZLAR, Germany — Leica Microsystems introduced the M205 C stereomicroscope line featuring proprietary FusionOptics imaging. It suits microelectronics manufacturing, materials science applications, medical device manufacturing, and related industrial applications.

Fully apochromatically corrected 20.5:1 zoom and 0.78× to 16× zoom range result in resolution up to 1050 lp/mm with a planapochromat objective 2×. The M205 C platform has a 1× objective and can resolve structures below 1 µm and 61.5-mm free working distance for sample manipulation. System integration through the Leica application suite (LAS) allows stereomicroscope, accessories, optical carrier, LED5000 illumination systems, and other peripherals to communicate; data is coordinated via a central interface. Test conditions can be saved and reproduced.

FusionOptics sets the stereomicroscope's two beam paths to perform separate functions. The left beam produces depth of field; the right beam provides high resolution. Leica reports that the viewer automatically processes information from both sources, essentially viewing the two paths combined into a 3D image.
