(March 27, 2008) PROVIDENCE, R.I. Cookson Electronics launched ALPHA SACX 0807 globally, targeting SAC305-type performance on complex dual-sided assemblies. The alloy's strength is good wetting and high mechanical reliability, according to company representatives. It is designed to expand on the ALPHA SACX 0307 low-silver wave alloy.
ALPHA SACX 0807 is a lower-cost alternative to SAC305, notes Cookson, produces less dross, and works well in lower operating temperature processes. It reportedly demonstrates mechanical reliability after extreme thermal cycling.
The alloy extends the SACX product family, which includes 0307 for single-sided and standard-complexity dual-sided assemblies; 0807 for complex dual-sided assemblies where high wetting force and fast wetting speed are required; DT, developed to minimize copper erosion in selective soldering and rework operations; and ALPHA SACX HASL for smooth, uniform pad finish and minimal copper erosion during plating. The ALPHA SACX family of products is available in standard bar, feeder bar, and wire.
