(May 23, 2008) WEYMOUTH, U.K. DEK released a host of performance and productivity improvements across its entire Horizon product line. Upgrades affect accuracy, verification, and productivity, according to the company. All three models in the platform now boast higher machine accuracy and repeatability. For example, the Horizon 01i offers a 2.0 Cpk @ ±25 µm. DPMO statistics also are available.
Functionality and shop floor productivity have been increased with the addition and extension of understencil cleaning and print verification technologies on other models in the range. Cyclone understencil cleaning technology is now available on the Horizon 03i. Cyclone's high-speed understencil cleaning is said to boost cleaning speed and efficiency significantly, and to extend intervals between paper-roll changeovers.
The entire Horizon platform range is now available with HawkEye post-print verification. HawkEye isolates faults through rapid good/bad verification instead of performing excessively data-rich inspection during high-speed manufacturing. It reportedly can verify 100% of printed boards within the line beat rate by analyzing streamed images as opposed to successive still images. Depending upon the model, image acquisition speeds range from 750 to 1700 mm2/sec. Changes to the Horizon 03i also address operator ergonomics and enable faster internal access to the machine with the incorporation of DEK's gull-wing panel design system and swing-arm-mounted, trackball-operated graphical user interface (GUI).
